Talks — Privacy Policy

Talks is a language-learning app. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how you can control it.

What we collect

• Account identity. When you sign in with Apple, Google, or Telegram we receive a unique account identifier and, where provided, your email address and display name. If you use Sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, we only receive Apple's private relay address.
• Your learning data. Words you save with their translations, your spaced-repetition review progress, watch history and statistics, learning streak, video playback positions, and app preferences (such as interface language). This is stored on our servers so it syncs across your devices.

Review reminders are scheduled locally on your device. We do not register or store a push token, and we send no remote notifications.

Video playback and YouTube

Lectures are MIT OpenCourseWare recordings, played through YouTube's official embedded player inside the app. When you open a lecture, your device connects to YouTube (Google) to load and play the video, exactly as it would if you opened that video on YouTube. Google may set cookies and receive your IP address, device and playback information under Google's Privacy Policy. We do not receive that data, and we send Google nothing about you. The subtitles come from MIT, not from YouTube.

What we do NOT do

We do not sell your data. We run no advertising and no analytics or tracking SDKs of our own. We do not collect your contacts, location, photos, or browsing history. Word translation happens on your device using Apple's built-in translation and is not sent to us or to anyone else.

How we use it

Solely to provide the app: to authenticate you and sync your learning data across your devices.

Where it is stored & who processes it

Data is stored on our servers. Authentication is processed by your chosen sign-in provider (Apple, Google, or Telegram) under their own privacy policies. Video playback involves Google/YouTube as described above.

Deleting your data

You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time in the app: Profile → Delete account. This erases your account and every word, statistic, progress record and setting we hold for you. You can also request deletion by emailing us.
